Duxford Air Shows Travel Advice

Duxford Summer Air Show and Duxford Battle of Britain Air Show are the two biggest events in our Flying Season calendar. To keep traffic moving on the day for our ticket holders, we have special event management plans in place:

  • Please do not follow satnav on the day as traffic management plans will be working to keep your car moving as you approach IWM Duxford.
  • Our on-site parking facilities are limited. We run free event shuttle buses for Duxford Summer Air Show and Duxford Battle of Britain Air Show, helping to make sure we can host the high number of visitors attending these two popular events, and to get as many people quickly and easily onto our showground as we can.
  • For Duxford Summer Air Show and Duxford Battle of Britain Air Show only, please consider taking the train to Cambridge train station or parking at Trumpington Park & Ride to access the free event shuttle bus service.
How to travel to Flying Days & special events
For other events in our busy flying season, including Flying Days, Duxford Flying Evening and Duxford Flying Finale, our standard visitor travel information applies. Please note, free shuttle buses are not available at these events.

Travelling by car

You can also stay up to date on road works and traffic on the day with National Highways. 

  • Where we are

    IWM Duxford is just south of Cambridge at Junction 10 off the M11 motorway, less than 50 miles from Central London and approximately 40 minutes from the M25 (Junction 27).

    Via the M11, the Museum is easily accessible from the A1, A14, M1 and the North.

  • Parking permits

    There is limited parking space at the event and parking permits must be pre-booked when you purchase your tickets.

    The easiest way to travel by car is to use our free event shuttle bus service from Trumpington Park and Ride at Junction 11 off the M11. 

  • Blue Badge parking permits

    Please check Blue Badge parking availability before you book. Visitors booking Blue Badge parking permits must have a valid Blue Badge (or international equivalent) to show on the day.

    Blue Badge parking will be signposted on arrival.

Please note, public electric vehicle charging stations are not currently available at IWM Duxford.

Trumpington Park and Ride

Parking on site is limited. Beat the traffic by parking at Trumpington Park and Ride. Free event shuttle buses run on Duxford Summer Air Show and Duxford Battle of Britain Air Show days to and from IWM Duxford's Visitor Centre throughout the day.

Event Shuttle Bus Times

Our free event shuttle bus is available for Duxford Summer Air Show and Duxford Battle of Britain Air Show ticket holders only. Standard IWM Duxford travel advice applies to Duxford Flying Days, Duxford Flying Finale or Duxford Flying Evening. 

  • Departure times from Cambridge Train Station (Station Place - Stand 5)

    Every 20 mins starting from 8.30am up until 1.30pm.

    Allow 30 mins bus journey time for arrival at IWM Duxford Visitor Centre.

    Shuttles will restart from IWM Duxford for the return journey from 3pm to 6.30pm. 

  • Departure times from Trumpington Park & Ride

    Every 20 mins starting from 8.30am up until 1.30pm.

    Allow 20 mins bus journey time for arrival at IWM Duxford Visitor Centre.

    Shuttles will restart from IWM Duxford for the return journey from 3pm to 6.30pm.

  • Departure times from IWM Duxford Visitor Centre

    Every 20 mins from 3pm until the last bus leaves at 6.30pm for Cambridge Train Station, via Trumpington Park & Ride.

     

Travelling by Train

  • Cambridge Train Station

    Free event shuttle buses run from and to Cambridge train station (Station Place) to IWM Duxford visitor centre. Follow the signs for Bus Interchange outside the station. Shuttle bus use is included with your Duxford Summer Air Show and Duxford Battle of Britain Air Show tickets. 

  • Whittlesford Parkway

    There are no event shuttle buses from Whittlesford Parkway, but you can walk from the train station.

    Please allow 30 minutes to complete your journey and be aware it is alongside the busy A505. You will need to cross slip roads to get to the event. 

For families and groups with young children, we do not recommend walking to the Duxford Air Show. Have you considered our free event shuttle buses?

Other ways to get to Duxford Air Shows

  • By motorbike

    Parking for motorbikes is free in the main visitor centre car park on flat ground. You do not need to purchase a parking permit.

  • By cycling

    Bicycle racks are available for use and are located next to the Visitor Centre at the main IWM Duxford entrance.
