Captain
Christopher Brown (Ref: 10215/5) served as naval
gunfire forward observation officer with 148 Commando, Royal
Artillery during the recapture of South Georgia. Here he recalls
ordering Royal Navy ships to open fire on selected targets
around Gryviken prior to the landings.
Brigadier
Julian Thompson (Ref: 12428/5) commanded 3rd Commando
Brigade throughout the campaign. Here he describes the effect
of Argentine air attacks on British ships during the landings
at San Carlos.
The
Battle of Goose Green was the first major land engagement
during the campaign. The 2nd Bn Parachute Regiment met stiff
resistance from an Argentine garrison that greatly outnumbered
them and lost their commanding officer Colonel 'H' Jones who
was subsequently awarded the Victoria Cross. Here Major
The Reverend David Cooper (Ref: 13419/7) recounts his
narrow escape from machine gunfire whilst looking for casualties
during the action on Darwin Hill.
After
initial losses against Fleet Air Arm Sea Harriers the
Argentinean Air Force avoided further air-to-air engagements
and concentrated on attacking Royal Navy vessels. Here Commander
Nigel 'Sharkey' Ward (Ref: 12820/4), who commanded 801
Squadron of the Fleet Air Arm during the Falklands War, describes
shooting down an Argentine Mirage aircraft.
Commander
Raymond Adams (Ref: 11307/5) served as a signals
officer aboard HMS Coventry during the campaign. Here he recalls
the Argentine Air Force attack on his ship that lead to it's
eventual sinking.
General
Jeremy Moore (Ref: 10482/8) commanded the land forces
during the recapture of the Falkland Islands. Here he recalls
his reactions to entering Port Stanley to receive the Argentine
surrender.
