"There was a friend of mine. We became friends while in the squadron and he said to me "John, I think that I'm not coming back". I said "Look mate don't talk about this because you put it in your mind. Don't talk about it, you will be back". He had a watch and a wedding ring and he took it off and gave it to me because I was, not on standby, I was there just in case, as a reserve. 

Eventually the four planes, I flew one of them, were called up to standby and eventually scrambled. Anyway he never came back."
