In 1981 Greenham Common Air Base
became the target of an anti-nuclear protest that was to last for 19
years.
Women protesting at the siting of Cruise Missiles (nuclear missiles) at the base set up the Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp, which ran until the year 2000. |

Since the early 1990s the Sound
Archive has been interviewing women who were living at, or involved with the
Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp, as well as military personnel working inside
