The
Department of Printed Books has an excellent collection of published items relating to the various Commonwealth forces. These include a complete run of
The Indian Army List from 1914 to 1947 (this is useful for tracing those officers who served with the British Army in India as well as those in the Indian Army because it is more detailed than
The Army List).
For the First World War there is an almost complete set of nominal rolls for the original Canadian Expeditionary Force, and a microfiche giving some details of all those who served in the Australian Imperial Force, including either their date of death or date of demobilization.
There are a large number of regimental histories for the Australian, Canadian, Indian and New Zealand Forces as well as material relating to the various volunteer forces in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaya, Shanghai, etc.
There is an excellent range of regimental histories from the United States of America, and although the collection concentrates on English language materials, there are holdings in numerous other languages, including a substantial collection of German regimental histories.
