The Imperial War Museum is a museum of social history. It concentrates on people’s experiences of war, the way they behave in war and the impact of war on society. The Museum is composed of five award-winning branches located across the UK: Imperial War Museum London, Churchill War Rooms, HMS
Belfast, Imperial War Museum Duxford and Imperial War Museum North.
The Imperial War Museum is also a charity that is only 50 per cent government funded and receives Grant in Aid from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). However, in order to enable the Museum to extend and develop its investment in access, education, community outreach, research, acquisitions and conservation, it must generate significant additional income. This is achieved through income from commercial activity (its shops, publishing programme, charging branches and exhibitions) and through valuable support obtained from trusts and foundations, companies, and individual supporters.
As a supporter of the Imperial War Museum you will help us to care for and exhibit our unique and extensive Collections and inspire learning through our innovative programmes for schools and families, helping to ensure future generations understand, and learn from, war and conflict.
The Museum is committed to achieving its goals and we actively seek funding to support our initiatives. If you would like to support the work of the Imperial War Museum, please consider making a donation, leaving a legacy or becoming a Friend or Volunteer. If you would like to find out more about our work please contact the Development Department.
