Family memories
Family memories

You may sometimes find items at home or in the possession of your family that can help with your family history research.  This section details some common objects that might have been treasured over the years, and explains what you can learn from them.

Ask older family members if they can help with your research.  They may be able to identify people in photographs or might have their own memorabilia they can show you.  Most people are only too happy to talk about the past if they can see you are genuinely interested, and you can learn all sorts of personal details.  Family stories may have become embroidered over the years or might not be totally correct, but they can help provide pieces of the jigsaw.
