Westland Lysander
At the outbreak of the Second World War the RAF's successor to the RE8 in the army cooperation, reconnaissance and artillery-spotting role was the Westland Lysander.

Westland Wasp
The Westland Wasp, the naval version of the British Army's Scout, was developed as a light anti-submarine helicopter for operations from small ships.

Wilfred Owen's experiences with the Manchester Regiment
In October 1915, the poet Wilfred Owen enlisted in the Army. He was commissioned into The Manchester Regiment in June 1916, and a year later was posted to the 2nd Battalion in France.
