Learning

Every branch of the Imperial War Museum is a great place for learning, for schools, families and all ages.

We have three branches in London: Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms, HMS Belfast, and IWM London. IWM Duxford is in Cambridgeshire, and IWM North is on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal.

Take part at any branch, and learn how war shapes lives.

You can read about our work last year in our Corporate Education Annual Report 2007-08 (PDF, 536KB).  Activity from 2002 - 2007 is covered in this Five Year Report (PDF, 348 KB)

Creative Spaces

Museums are amazing social spaces, full of discussion, debate and discovery. Creative Spaces lets you experience this online:

  • Search across NINE national museum collections at once
  • Find and share your inspirations with other people
  • Upload videos and pictures, add comments and tags
  • Join online groups, keep virtual notebooks of your favourite museum objects

Creative Spaces is part of the National Museums Online Learning Project.

Learning Resources for Schools

WebQuests are brilliant new online resources for schools – based on collections from NINE national museums, including the Imperial War Museum. They are mapped to the curriculum at Key Stages 1 to 4, across subjects including English, Maths, History and Citizenship.

WebQuests are part of the National Museums Online Learning Project.

We also have further learning resources for teachers to complement WebQuests: Media & War and No Job for a Woman.

There is even more available for teachers and schools from our major education project Their Past Your Future.

Community learning supported by business

The Imperial War Museum is committed to working with business partners to deliver the best possible learning service.  A recent joint photography project with AXA Art was a great example of this form of partnership.

If your business is interested in supporting learning at the IWM, please contact Steve Gardam, Head of Corporate Education, on 020 7416 5354.

IWM Learning Resources available to buy
