Two companies and a Stokes Mortar team from 1st Battalion, the Lancashire Fusiliers
form up for the assault in a sunken lane opposite Hawthorn Ridge. Twenty minutes after this film was shot they attacked under heavy machine gun fire and only 50 of them reached the low bank beyond the lane.
