- The Dumfries & Galloway Standard of 6 June 1917 p.5 has a lengthy article which begins: Congregational Church Social A social meeting to celebrate the union of Waterloo Place and Irving Street Congregational Churches was held in the hall of Irving Street Church Monday evening. The arrangements for union have been in progress for only a short time, the deaconates of each church acting as committee with the respective ministers as conveners, and so amicable have been the relations between the two bodies and so deep and fervent the desire for union that practically difficulty was experienced in completing negotiations...………………….
