Description
Small Latin Cross surmounting a tall pillar which is on a pedestal. On the top part of the pedestal is a stone WW1 plaque with the dedication, then a thick dividing line, followed by officers names. Below is the WW2 names plaque. The pedestal is flanked on either side by stone walls, each of which has an 'other ranks' tablet with 2 columns divided by a thick black line. The memorial area is accessed by a flight of steps from street level, with wrought iron railings on either side, and a wrought iron gate at street level. There are also 2 wooden benches on stone legs under each of the flank walls.

  • The Scotsman, Monday 25th September 1922. COLMONELL The memorial which has been erected at Colmonell to commemorate the men belonging to the parish who fell in the Great War was unveiled yesterday by Mrs M'Connel of Knockdolian, in presence of a large number of ex-servicemen and the general public. General Sir Charles Fergusson of Kilkerran delivered the opening address, and Mr R. F. M'Ewen of Barbrochat read the names inscribed on the memorial, which is of handsome design.
  • Wigtownshire Free Press 16 November 1916 reports at length, with photograph, the death of the Laird, Farquhar Gray Tinn, of pnuemonia, buried in the Churchyard
