Description
Copper Plaque on an oak backboard. The WW2 names are added on to the two sides of the memorial with WW1 names at centre. A 1922 newspaper report indicates the original WW1 memorial may have been bronze on marble. So it looks as if the memorial may have been remade in 1949 to cover both conflicts, rather than just make a separate WW2 plaque. Currently the full history is not known, to be able to confirm that scenario. See also our references 458 and 69026 for other memorials which include Kenneth Campbell VC at Sedbergh School, Cumbria: his education after Ardrossan before he went to Cambridge University.
