- Description
- Roll of Honour, set in a plain dark wood frame. There is a patterned border edged with gold, with sprays of leaves between roundels in the corners and half way along the top, bottom and sides, showing the flags and symbols of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. From top left and working anti-clockwise, these roundels feature (1) three gold lions couchant on a red shield; (2) The dog rose of England; (3) a gold harp of Ireland in a blue shield; (4) daffodils of Wales; (5) red lion on green and white shield; (6) the thistle of Scotland; (7) red lion rampant on a gold shield; (8) yellow cross on blue shield. In the main panel, there is a gold cross at centre top, flanked by the crossed flags of Great Britain. The wording of the title interweaves with these, painted in gold letters outlined in black. Below this is the dedication written in Gothic script with illuminated capitals in red, blue and gold. The names are listed in two columns divided by a thin blue vertical line, with similar blue lines up either side of the lists. The names are written in black ink, and the regiments in red. A red cross to the left of the names denotes those who died.
