- Condition
- History
- Until 2012, the tablets were rendered over. They were uncovered during renovation work. Tablets 1 and 2 were in poor condition but were readable and have been restored. Tablets 3 and 4 were severely damaged and unreadable. They were rendered over to prevent water ingress. Fortunately, a ledger held at the East Sussex County Records Office ('Bills and accounts for work done on the new chapel - NMB/7/1/3/1-12 1924 - 1925) has an entry for an unveiling ceremony on 19th November 1924 which listed the names (but not the exact wording) on the tablets together with the costs. The names on tablets 3 and 4 are on the Framfield War Memorial, which gave us their dates of death. As we have no record of the exact wording on tablets 3 and 4, we have based the wording on that used on tablets 1 and 2.
