Description
The memorial consists of two stone steps based with a pedestal drinking fountain and a bronze book with a stone wreath at the back which are the WW2 memorial. The roman number MCMXIV XIX is carved on the top of the fountain which indicates the year of First World War. The left and right panels are consists of the inscriptions of WW1 names and front panel the erection.

  • The Scotsman 8 July 1921 WAR MEMORIALS THORNHILL.— The war memorial of the parish of Morton was dedicated and unveiled by his Grace the Duke of Buccleuch. K.T. The memorial service was held in Morton Parish Church, and the ministers taking part were Rev. J. H. Oswald, Rev. G. Kirk, Rev. J. Paterson, Rev. J. B. Pirrett. The memorial, which is in the form of a fountain, is a handsome piece of work, made by mr A. Carruthers, Thornhill. The unveiling of the memorial, which stands in The Gill, was performed before a crowd of 3000.
