An oval bronze plaque with a representation of laurel wreath surround and a badge of the regiment at the top.
Inscription
Plaque: TO THE MEMORY/ OF/ JOHN KIPLING/ LIEUTENANT SECOND BATTALION/ IRISH GUARDS. THE SON OF/ RUDYARD AND CAROLINE KIPLING/ OF BATEMAN'S WHO FELL AT/ THE BATTLE OF LOOS/ THE 27th OF SEPTEMBER 1915/ AGED/ EIGHTEEN YEARS AND SIX WEEKS/ QUI ANTE DIEM/ PERIIT. (Translation: He departed before daybreak) Framed notice under plaque: This plaque, in memory of John, only son of Rudyard and Caroline Kipling, who aged eighteen years and six months (sic) gave his life for his country in 1915, is the first commissioned work of Charles Wheeler, later president of the Royal Academy of Arts London from 1956 till his retirement in 1966.
