- History
- On September 9 1920, a decision was made to drop the word 'Great' from 'Great War'. On 28 September 1920 it was reported that it was 'impossible to get cement' which led to building decay. On 17 August 1922 there was a public meeting about the lack of railing, in 1926 the railing was completed through public subscription.

War memorials to fallen soldiers were unveiled at Buchlyvle and Thornhill, Doune, on Saturday afternoon. The Duke of Montrose performed the unveiling ceremony at Buchlyvie, and the Earl of Moray at Thornhill. In both cases the memorial is a rough-hewn pillar surmounted by a cross.
- Dundee Courier - Thursday 30 October 1924 www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000164/19241030/126/0007 BULLOCK CHARGES WAR MEMORIAL. Running away in the village of Buchlyvie, West Stirlingshire, a "mad" bullock charged the local war memorial (an obelisk) head on. The memorial rocked, but kept upright, and the bullock was so staggered by the shock that it allowed itself to be quietly driven away.
