Description
Stone obelisk surmounting a plinth and two stepped base. Obelisk and plinth are fronted with rough cut stone bricks and the plinths are smooth cut. The base of the memorial is surrounded by cobbled stones. There is a metal ornament on the front of the memorial shows a crossed flag/standard and sheathed sword, surmounted by a wreath.

  • The Scotsman 24 May 1920. WAR MEMORIALS UNVEILING AT LAW JUNCTION.— The unveiling of a war memorial to the fallen soldiers belonging to the village of Law Junction, near Carluke, took place yesterday, before a gathering of several thousand people. The monument is in the form of a granite obelisk, and bears the names of 29 men. Mr Matthew Richmond presided. The unveiling ceremony was performed by Captain Walter Elliot, M.C., M.P. After the ceremony Carluke Brass Band played "The Flowers of the Forest."
  • Carluke and Lanark Gazette - Friday 28 May 1920 -UNVEILING OF LAW WAR MEMORIAL -TOUCHING AND IMPRESSIVE CEREMONY.-(picture) The most touching and impressive ceremony which has ever taken place in Law, and one which will take a permanent place in the annals of the village, took place on Sunday afternoon in connection with the unveiling of the War Memorial erected to the memory of the Law men who had fallen in battle or otherwise died on service. The ceremony was carried through under ideal weather conditions, and the attendance as a result was a record one, the ceremony being witnessed by a gathering of between two and three thousand people drawn from over a wide area. The ceremony will live, long in the memory of all who witnessed it. ……….
