THEY LOVED NOT THEIR LIVES TO THE DEATH REV X11.11/ TO THE PROUD AND UNFADING MEMORY OF/ ORBELL OAKES/ CAPTAIN IN THE XIX (APWO) YORKSHIRE REGIMENT/ WHO FELL AT THE BATTLE OF NEUVE CHAPELLE AND WAS/ BURIED NEAR MOULIN LE PRIETRE, MARCH 12TH 1915, AGED 34 YEARS 4 MONTHS/ ALSO ROBERT CLAUDE OAKES 2ND LIEUT RFA AND RFC/ WHO WAS KILLED IN AN AERIAL FIGHT ON JULY 16TH 1916/ AND WAS BURIED IN A GERMAN OFFICERS CEMETERY AT LE VERGUIER/ AGED 18 YEARS 9 MONTHS/ THE VERY DEARLY LOVED SECOND AND YOUNGEST SONS OF/ LT COLONEL O H OAKES AND LAURA HIS WIFE
