Description
Brass tablet in elaborate wall mounted frame of pure Gothic design with three arches above the plaque, centre arch has a marble(?) rosette with initials "JP" in the centre. This is below a stained glass window.
Inscription
This monument to the Memory of Serjeant Major John Michael Peniston a native of this city and for 32 years / a member of the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry Cavalry was erected by the Officers, non-commissioned Officers / and Privates of the Regiment as a Testimonial of their respect and esteem for his upright and kindly / character and of their sense of the zealous and efficient manner in which during 25 years of service in the Regiment he / discharged the duties of Regimental Serjeant Major + He died suddenly in the 51 year of his age at Tottenham Park / at the close of the annual permanent duty of the Corps on the 5th day of May 1858 to the great sorrow of all who knew / him and especially of his Comrades of all ranks in the Regiment in which he had so long and so faithfully served
