Description
An 'Eleanor Cross': a large sculpted stone structure with a cross at top. The structure tapers down with four niches to rest on a nine-stepped stone base. The top tier of niches contain four stone figures of Queen Eleanor. The second level are closed, with carved stone and finials. The third level of niches contain further, larger figures of Queen Eleanor. The fourth and lowest tier of niches bears bronze reliefs of the fallen of the First World War, depicted as Crusaders in religious poses, with brass plaques and inscribed text. The figures in bronze relief are topped by shields decorated with coats-of-arms.
