Description
Five stepped base surmounted by plinth and decorated stone crucifix on top of pillar. Separate name tablets set at the base with inscription in black lettering. Stone posts on the base step with chain links between. A third tablet with additional names from WW1 was added in 2010. Early photographs show that the protective stone posts around the base of the memorial plinth were added in the 1920s, and that the raised stone base they were set upon has had a new layer added - and the posts themselves replaced with new ones. In one very early photograph, showing the memorial shrouded in the Union flag - perhaps awaiting its unveiling and dedication - there does not appear to be a tablet bearing the inscribed names.
