Description
Oak memorial board, with pediment. The raised centre panel has a relief carving of a laurel wreath at top-centre, and of the City coat of arms at the foot of the World War 1 section, followed by the incised inscription relating to that War. The 30 First World War names are incised within three carved framed sections on the upper panels. The Second World War section fixed beneath has three panels, the central one bearing the incised inscription and one name; the other 8 names are listed on the two panels either side. (Those named on the WW1 panels are also listed in the Bristol Corporation Employee's WW1 Book of Remembrance - see War Memorials Register reference 90125).

  • Western Daily Press 21/6/1921 (page 6) reported the unveiling of the memorial, which had taken place the previous afternoon, at which it was mentioned that 262 employees (one quarter of the total staff) from the Docks Committee had enlisted, of whom 30 had died.
