BRICK BASE SUPPORTING A MILLSTONE SURMOUNTED BY STONE PLINTH WITH 15 INCH BL SIEGE HOWITZER SHELL. TWO PLAQUES PLACED ON THE SIDES OF SHELL. NAMES OF THE FALLEN MARKED WITH A CROSS.

History
Extensive renovation of the site in 2011 included refurbishment of all stone inscriptions by a Master Mason; cleaning of the Portland stone cross, plinth and steps; renovation of the gates, perimeter metal posts and new chains 1999: Shell case renovated to prevent further rusting, black paint covering the plaque removed and then sprayed with laquer. c1981: New Coronation Gates fitted 1960: New chains added 1960: Plaque recording the Government's offer of the 15in Howitzer to the people of Baltonsborough falls from the memorial. 1955: Addition of Coronation Gates which had been agreed upon in 1953. 6 November 1949: Unveiling of the two WW2 names added to the plinth. c1940: Chains removed from around memorial.
