- Nowy-headed white marble tablet, on a black marble backboard. The white tablet has a carved cross at top-centre, beneath which is the incised inscription in black lettering. (N.B. The spelling of the hamlet varied in records: on the memorial and some records it was spelt 'Philpott End'; in other documents, it was spelt 'Philpot End').

- Essex Newsman Saturday 25/9/1920 reported: 'War Memorial. —On Sunday the Rev. John Evans, formerly vicar of Dunmow, unveiled a marble tablet at the Mission Hall, Philpot End, to the memory of six men who fell in the war. The Rev. W. J. House, vicar of Dunmow, assisted in the service, which was well attended. The memorial cost £20, and before the service £4 was needed to make that sum up. - "Lest We Forget: The First World War Memorials of Uttlesford District", published by Recorders of Uttlesford History, 2014; ISBN 978-1-873669-14-3: page 35 has a photo of the memorial; page 34 states 'The plaque was removed from the Mission Hall when it was deconsecrated and is now in St Mary's Church'.
