- Description
- Garden of Remembrance surrounded on 3 sides by brick walls. The walls have pitched roofs to shelter benches. The walls bear Sandstone tablets with names- 6 for WW1 & 2 for WW2, the 9th for Private N Simms who fell in the North West Frontier of India in 1930. BLACK LETTERING. The central gateway has a pair of wrought iron gates, and is surmounted with a cross finial. The design was based on features of French farms seen by so many servicemen during World War 1

- In 2016 a grant of £2,950 was awarded through the War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme towards a detailed condition survey and report with recommendations for conservation and repair which was undertaken by a conservation-accredited professional advisor. In 2017 a grant of £63,330 was awarded through the War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme towards reroofing in matching clay tiles, repairs to the timber support structure and repairs to the timber cross finial located over the central gateway, repointing with lime mortar, repairs and new cast iron rainwater goods, repairs and repainting of the lead inscriptions on inlaid sandstone plaques, repairs and repainting gates, repairs to gullies, replacement of broken kerbs and new coping to low wall to prevent water ingress. SmartWater was applied to metal elements as a condition of the grant.
