Description
A village of 30 cottages built on land around Westfield House, former home of Sir Thomas Storey. The memorial village was created to provide "a settlement for disabled service men", more houses have been added subsequently. In the middle of the village is a memorial statue of a soldier supporting a kneeling wounded soldier on a plinth of stone masonry. There is a plaque on the 6 o'clock face of the plinth with an inscription.

History
Additional houses were added between 1927 and WW2 and others in the 1950's after a fundraising drive launched in 1943. Electric lighting was installed in 1935 In 1987 the village was leased to Guinness Northern Counties and this enabled ongoing funding to be provided so that the homes could be modernised.

Comments: The land given by Mr Herbert Lushington Storey was the area of the former Storey Mansion with associated outbuildings plus 16 acres. Miss Mary Simpson of Lancaster left a bequest of £3,000 in 1935 for the village
