Description
Small Portland stone cross with an imperial crown on centre, on a battered obelisk rising from a square plinth, on a two step sandstone base, with toothed cornice below the base of the cross. The WW1 dedication is on the front face, with the WW1 names on the 9 o'clock face. The WW2 dedication is on the front face of the plinth, with the WW2 names on the 3 o'clock face. The memorial is set in a semi-circular walled area at the side of the road behind a post and chain fence.
Inscription
On the 6 o' clock face of the obelisk: TO THE HONOUR AND / GLORY OF GOD / AND IN LOVING MEMORY / OF THE BRAVE MEN OF / FURNESS VALE WHO LAID / DOWN THEIR LIVES FOR / THEIR KING AND COUNTRY / IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914-1919 Below the obelisk: PEACE On the 6 o'clock face of the plinth: AND IN HONOURED MEMORY / OF THE MEN AND ONE WOMAN / OF THIS VILLAGE WHO DIED IN THE / SECOND WORLD WAR / 1939-1945 3 o'clock face: "HOW SLEEP THE BRAVE/ WHO SINK TO REST/ BY ALL THEIR COUNTRY'S/ WISHES BLEST."/ R.I.P/ (WW2 Names) 9 o'clock face: R.I.P./ (WW1 Names)
