- Description
- In the North Transept, Middlesex Chapel, a large marble group on a plinth. PORTRAIT BUST OF PICTON STANDS ON PLINTH WITH ALLEGORICAL FIGURES OF IMMORTALITY, MILITARY VOCTORY AND AND VICTORY ACCOMPANIED BY A LION TO THE SIDES On the left, a naked male angel with an eternal flame on his head rests his arm on the shoulder of a figure represented as a roman military general, with plumed helmet, a spear in his left hand, a shield behind, and extending his right hand to receive a laurel wreath from the figure on the right. The figure on the right is represented as a female angel striding forward and holding a palm in her right hand. Between the figures is a lion, his head turned upwards and backwards, and, behind, a broad, circular pedestal with a frieze carved with military medals and continuous ribbons, surmounted by a bust of a man draped in Roman costume.
