The original statue was mounted on a plinth bearing a dedication and names list. The whole fixture was removed and placed in storage in 1968. After structural concerns it was then separated, with the lion and eagle statue placed on a new plain plinth in the new location and the original plinth moved to St Mary's Church (WMR Ref: 1169).
