- Description
- Fluted column in granite (Stylobate) surmounted by stone statue of Admiral Nelson dressed in his Admiral's uniform. Four bronze reliefs depicting Nelson's victories and his death at the Battle of Trafalgar are placed around the base. Four bronze lions placed at each corner of the base. Bronze acanthus leaves decorate the top of the column, just below the statue.

- 1987-89: Cleaned and repaired. 2006: Memorial is undergoing restoration to carry out a more sympathetic repair to the right arm of the statue which was damaged by lightning in the 1880's. The repair at the time consisted of attaching bronze straps to the arm. Work will also be done on pigeon proofing measures and the removal of bird droppings. Work is due to be finished in July. 1986: Restoration work carried out on the memorial. 1968: Memorial was restored Dates unknown: Monument cleaned several times
