Our learning sessions are based upon the collections of the museum and draw heavily on the personal records of the people who were involved in the major conflicts of the twentieth century.

Extraordinary Heroes Gallery: Creative Conversations

60 minutes

Students will use our Object Dialogue Box to take a creative approach to navigating a museum gallery.  Specially commissioned for our Extraordinary Heroes exhibition, the unique objects are designed to stimulate exploration and debate.

First World War: Personal Perspectives

90 minutes

Students use material from IWM's Collections to lead their own investigation into one person's experience of the First World War.  They then share their findings and reflect on the range of experiences represented.

Holocaust Learning

Year 9 - 60 minutes

IWM London offers all learners, through the use of artefacts, replica objects and discussion, the opportunity to deepen their understanding and reflect upon the Holocaust. Learning sessions support informal learners as well as those following the National Curriculum with links to exam-based subjects in Art, History, Psychology and Religious Studies. As part of the session your group will visit The Holocaust Exhibition.

Second World War: Home Front

90 minutes

Using a range of artefacts and sources, students interpret collections to analyse the impact of war on civilians on the home front, including paid and voluntary work, the role of women, and children’s experiences.

Second World War: Meet an Evacuee

60 minutes

Students have the opportunity to meet a Second World War eyewitness who can answer students' questions and share their memories of evacuation and life on the home front.

This session is only available on Wednesdays.
