First World War Loan Boxes

Finding Our First World War is a Heritage Lottery funded project running at IWM North which has supported those teaching and learning about the impact of the First World War. With additional funding from the Zochonis Charitable Trust we are able to continue to offer this support.

Schools can borrow a specially created selection of real and replica artefacts such as an army biscuit, items of uniform, a gas mask and a wooden training rifle.

Along with the loan box itself, schools will also be provided with images, film and sound clips from the IWM archive and regional archives, focusing on the personal stories of people from the Greater Manchester area during the First World War.

The loan resources are suitable for use in primary and secondary schools and FE colleges and can be used flexibly for historical enquiry, art projects, whole school learning, drama and literacy.

A range of suggested activities suitable for different Key Stages and staff training for using these resources are also offered.

The loan boxes are available until 31 August 2018.
