War Story: Supplying Frontline Afghanistan

Tue 10 September 2013 – Sun 27 April 2014

'It's like Eddie Stobart on steroids, isn’t it? It’s logistics at its extreme'
- WO2 Michael Grimes, 2nd Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment

From keeping thousands of troops hydrated in temperatures exceeding 50ºC to the complexities of moving equipment, ammunition and supplies around the war-torn Helmand Province, War Story: Supplying Frontline Afghanistan explores the stories of the men and women who supply, support and maintain front line troops in Afghanistan.

This new display features brand new material including photographs and film recently collected on a series of expeditions to Afghanistan by the War Story team. Listen to on-the-ground interviews, watch time-lapse footage and take the Logistics Challenge to reveal the challenges of supporting armed forces on the front line.

War Story: Supplying Frontline Afghanistan is part of IWM’s War Story project, which offers British service personnel, their families and others involved in Operation Herrick in Afghanistan the opportunity to record their role in history by preserving their personal accounts of the current conflict in Afghanistan in IWM’s unrivalled national collections.

The War Story Project is supported by Boeing Defence UK Ltd, a subsidiary of The Boeing Company.
