Family Activities

Crossing the Line

17 - 31 August

11am - 12.30pm and 2pm - 4pm

Join us as we cross the line and look at the ceremony that took place when sailors crossed the equator for the first time. Find out why the crew dressed up as different characters from Neptune’s court and what kind of initiation rites men were put through – including being blindfolded and getting soaked.

Inspired by these characters, create your own collaged mask and take part in a re-enactment of the ceremony on the deck.

Tattoo T-Shirts: Davy Jones's Locker

5 - 6 September

11am - 12.30pm and 2pm - 4pm

Impress your friends and family by designing your very own t-shirt, inspired by traditional navy tattoos, and the sailor legend of Davy Jones’s Locker.

While you’re getting creative, you’ll learn more about the history of navy tattoos, what the symbols mean and why as a sailor you wouldn’t want to be visiting Davy Jones’s Locker in a hurry.
