Storytelling: Animals and War

Daily throughout August, 10:30am

Join us for family storytelling sessions about animals and war. Puppets and pictures will bring to life heroic and heart-warming tales of wartime animal bravery, such as the story of Irma the dog who helped rescue people from collapsed buildings when V1 and V2 bombs were dropped in London in 1944.

Open Studio: Pompom Toy

Daily between Mon 1 - Fri 12 August, 2 - 3pm

Get creative and learn more about life on the Second World War home front. Handle real artefacts from the museum’s collections including a darning mushroom and make your own pompom toy to take home and keep.

1940s Family Fashion

Saturday 13 August, 2 - 2.30pm

From hand me downs and patched pyjamas, to make do and mend, hear about the impact of the Second World War on the way we dressed. Join History's Maid and hear all about life as child in the 1940s. You will never look at a pair of socks the same way again!

Open Studio: Felt Decorations

Be inspired by the creativity and ingenuity of people staying stylish on a shoestring during the Second World War and make your own felt and bead decoration using a range of colourful materials. Learn more about life on the home front and handle real artefacts from the museum’s collections including an ARP lamp.
