Emmanuel Jal, a South Sudanese musician, former child soldier and humanitarian advocate for social justice and human rights, talks and performs at IWM North.
Raised in South Sudan as a child soldier, Emmanuel Jal is now a rising hip-hop artist, working through his music to promote peace and equality. He has recently collaborated with independent grassroots music organisations worldwide to create an album of revolutionary and political music. 33RPM Voices of the Revolution features musicians who chronicle oppression, uprisings, land rights issues, acts of revolution, and political and social abuses. This unique event is a chance to hear Emmanuel Jal in conversation with Professor James Thomson, director of In Place of War, as well as performing tracks live from his album.
