Life in a Modern War Zone: British Service Personnel Remember

18 April 2012

7pm-8pm

We are constantly bombarded with information about what modern warfare is like through television, books and even video games, but what is the reality?

Get back to basics to discover what everyday life is like for soldiers at war, from where they wash and sleep to what it feels like to go into battle.

British service personnel who have served in Afghanistan and other recent conflicts will be sharing their own experiences of living in a war zone. The discussion will directly relate to many of the themes and issues explored in our interactive display War Story: Serving in Afghanistan.

Featured speakers are Major Ian Johnstone (Retired), who served with the Royal Scots Regiment and spent 18 years serving in Northern Ireland, and Sergeant Nathaniel Beesley, who deployed to Afghanistan on Operation 'Herrick 12' in spring 2010.

Journalist and author Mark Urban will facilitate the discussion.
