In our last full 2016-17 year volunteers once again made a significant contribution in days to the delivery of planned objectives across the IWM group. In the process we secured external recognition for IWM volunteering, underlined our reputation for innovative best practice in volunteer management and made a contribution to the personal wellbeing of our current volunteers. Alongside continued progress in a range of established volunteering roles this year also saw the introduction of a number of wholly new volunteer roles.
During 2016-17 an average of 1035 volunteers collectively donated in excess of 103,000 hours in support of IWM branches and projects. Volunteers are currently involved with a broad range of support services from aircraft, military vehicle and ship conservation through to collections support, Friends of Duxford and IWM Membership events & recruitment, on gallery interaction and information delivery, radio station operation and office support. In our current business year we delivered our inaugural IWM Volunteer Recognition Awards at our IWM Duxford Branch on 5 June when we were able to celebrate the amazing and varied contributions now made by our volunteering teams across the UK.
