REEL 1 Background in Paris, France and French West Indies, 1921-1938: family; education. Period as engineer with French Merchant Navy, 1938-1940: ships sailed on; reaction to French armistice; volunteering for Free French forces in GB, summer 1940. Period with Free French Army in GB and during Dakar raid, 1940: condition of Free French forces in London; joining tank corps; role during Dakar raid, 9/1940; desertion from army and joining Free French Navy. Recollections of operations with Free French Navy, 1940-1945: volunteering for submarine service; experiences during Plymouth Blitz, spring 1941; contracting TB on board submarine Surcouf; hospitalisation at Newton Abbot, 1941. REEL 2 Continues: period in sanatorium at Beaconsfield; return to submarine service at Dunoon; drafting to Cowes; German Air Force attack on Cowes, 5/1942; transfer to torpedo boats; experiences aboard submarine chaser Q 41 off Normandy coast, 6/1944.
