Recollections of operations as asdic operator aboard Q Ship Edge Hill in Atlantic, 1940: background to involvement in Q Ship operations including training as asdic operator; joining ship; question of usefulness of Q Ship concept; character of Q Ship crews; disguised armament on ship. REEL 2 Continues: use of panic party; torpedoing and sinking of ship, summer 1940; rescue by French trawler; problems posed by bombardment of Mers el Kebir; how he persuaded French trawler captain to land the survivors at Newlyn; how Captain Ryder survived sinking and period in sea; opinion of Captain Ryder.
