Object description
image: view of the deck of a landing craft busy with the bustling of British soldiers. Men stand and sit around, a man in
the foreground approaching the doorway of a stairwell down below deck. An Oerlikon gun, the two barrels pointing skywards, is visible in
the background.
Label
Ardizzone records his time on the L.C.I. in his diary on 12 June 1944: 'On deck at 6.15, make myself some cocoa in a
self-heating tin. Glorious morning and feel much better. Weather brilliant as we approach the French coast. A multitude of craft in every
direction and of all shapes and kinds, from battleships to the oddest looking things afloat.' Two sketches relating to this work accompany
the diary entry for this day. (IWM LD 7580 [D])
