Ardizzone records his journey on the LCI (Landing Craft Infantry) on 11 June 1944: 'Phone message at breakfast - car arriving immediately to take me to L.C.I., fearful rush. Find ship gone when I arrived at pier. The next three hours spent on the water in small boats trying to find her. Some hair-raising climbs up and down piers. Arrive on board about 3pm. Find mostly R.A.M.C personnel on board, pleasant crowd.' A sketch realting to this drawing can be found alongside the diary entry (IWM LD 7580 [D])
