Object description

whole: MODEL obverse design : Verdun, personified by a woman, bust, three-quarter left profile bust, wearing turreted crown, holding a sword in her right hand and a flag in her left. The figure is enclosed by an ornate border bearing text obverse text : "VERDUN" & "ON NE PASSE PAS" reverse design : soldier, French "poilu", half-length bearded figure facing right, wearing dented helmet and carrying rifle. The "poilu" is enclosed by an ornate border, as obverse, bearing text reverse text : "EN AVANT" & "JUS QU'AU BOUT" (note that the first "U" of "JUSQU'AU" is obscured by the rifle butt)
