Object description

whole: the image occupies the majority, held within a narrow green border. The title and text is positioned in a text box beneath the image, in black Gothic typescript. Further text is separate and positioned across the top edge and across the bottom edge, both in black Gothic typescript. image: the image is designed to be used in a board game. The game is based on six artillery guns which fire at a fortress on a hill. The trajectory of each gun's shell is drawn onto the image in a different colour, and each coloured line is numbered from one (near the barrel of the gun) to 15 (where the shell hits its target). Counters are included at the bottom to cut out and move along the coloured lines to reach the target. text: Beilage zur Illustrierten Mädchenzeitung 'Das Kränzchen'. 28. Jahrgang, Beilage 1. Einzelverkauf dieses Spiels untersagt, Nachdruck verboten. [Supplement to the girls’ illustrated newspaper, Das Kränzchen [The Garland]. Um die Festung [Round the Fortress]. You are recommended to glue the plan of the game on to cardboard to make it more durable. The small coloured circles and the shells in the bottom right-hand and left-hand corners should be cut out; the former are used to draw lots, the latter as pieces. Rules of the game. Up to six people can take part in this game, each paying 10 counters into the kitty. The sequence of turns is drawn by lot by laying the round slips of paper on to the table face down, and each player drawing one. Players then throw the dice in the sequence of the colours below near the guns. The player throws the dice and moves his shell forward according to the number of pips on the dice. If the piece lands on a red number, the player has made a hit and receives 3 counters from the kitty as a reward. On the other hand if the player lands on a white number, he must go back to 1. If the number on the dice takes the player past 15, he has to move back as many places from 15 as he has thrown. The first player to land on 15 receives two thirds of the contents of the kitty, the next receives the remainder. Moreover, three people can play, each with two colours, or two people with three colours each.
