This is part of the uniform worn by Lieutenant (Electrical branch) Stanley James Buckley, RNVR. Buckley was a senior engineering officer on board minesweepers patrolling the English Channel during the Second World War. Being skilled in both the French and German languages, Buckley was later posted to France and Germany post-Invasion, and ended his wartime experiences by overseeing the destruction of German vessels in Cuxhafen. Buckley met Second Officer Barbara Noverraz, WRNS, whilst in the Service, and they later married in 1950 (see UNI 12754 - 12756).
