Label

Second World War British made earthenware mug commemorating the formal cessation of hostilities in North West Europe, VE Day, 8 May 1945. It is likely (given the method of inscription) that this commemorative item was rapidly produced to take advantage of the celebrations of a hastily declared national holiday in Britain. The mug was presented to the donor (J Alcock Esq) during the VE Day celebrations - which included a tea party attended by him in Brightfield Street, Lee, South London, on 2 June 1945

V. E May 1945
