History note

Commemorative key ring associated with the service of Captain N Azab, a member of the Egyptian contingent in UNOSOM 2 (United Nations Operation in Somalia). The peace-keeping force was deployed in 1992 but was unable to prevent a civil war and withdrew in 1995.

Physical description

circular key ring (4cm diameter) with coloured enamelled design comprising a central 'dove of peace', rifle and, at the upper edge, the pyramids. At the right edge an outline map of Somalia and at the left a sprig of olive branch. Text at upper and lower edges, 'UNOSOM' and 'EGYPTIAN FORCE'.
