Sports trophy associated with a football team formed from members of the crew of HMS Dreadnought in the period 1915-1916. HMS Dreadnought was launched in 1906 and was the first all-big-gun battleship. From 1907 she was the flagship of the C-in-C Home Fleet and served in this role until 1911. From December 1912 until May 1916 she was flagship of the 4th Battle Squadron operating with the Home and Grand Fleets. The only real action that Dreadnought was involved in was on March 18, 1915 when she rammed and sank the submarine U29 while returning to Scapa Flow with the Grand Fleet. In 1916, the Dreadnought was transferred to the Thames estuary to become the flagship of the pre-Dreadnoughts of the 3rd Battle Squadron until the end of the war. In 1919 she was placed in reserve at Rosyth and was sold for scrap in 1922. She was broken up at Inverkeithing in 1923.
